PAMPHLETS WE USED TO DEFEAT ZONING
1. It won’t fix any existing problems – they’re
“grandfathered” in
2. It won’t keep out smelly mega farms with thousands
of hogs or chickens – They’re ”exempt”
3. It will create a bureaucracy at the Court House – a
grand opportunity for petty dictators to tell us how to
live. It only takes two of the three County
Commissioners to change the plan & rules however
they wish.
4. They won’t tell us how much the zoning office will
cost – some estimate as much as $200,000 while the
county is cutting deputies & road workers.
5. The rules are open to interpretation – by an
appointed administrator and an appointed appeals
board.
6. It raises the cost of doing virtually anything with
your property (except farm it).
7. It prevents the landowner whose assets are tied up
in land from deciding the best and highest use of the
property.
8. It contains silly rules, like requiring you to put 8” of
compacted gravel in a new house’s parking lot.
9. It doesn’t tell you how rules such as setback will be
enforced – will you have to tear down your garage for
an innocent mistake like the family in Warrensburg did?
10. You could be fined or go to jail for an innocent
mistake, since each day of violation is a separate
misdemeanor.
11. Cities will have virtual control over any changes
within 1.5 miles of their city limits – and the proposed
plan gives them much more than that.
